The Rover-Landers of BC

Hello everyone,

I just moved back here (vancouver) from the UK, and while there fell in love with Defenders (and really, who wouldn't?).

This has also meant that I had to get a 110, and bring it back with me... which is where the questions start ;)

I'm aware of most of the hoops that need to be jumped through to bring one across, (Customs forms, inspections, age, cleanliness, etc).

1) As far as the inspection is concerned, does anyone know what they actually check for / what will be wrong with a stock(ish) defender for use in canada?
is it headlights? glass? other differences? Can anyone recommend a good inspection shop that "understands" landy's? (I noticed that HESP auto advertise here, are they any good? experiences?)

2) Defenders leak (both incoming and outgoing), and they are noisy... I have accepted this... partially :)
My guess at this point is that most of the road noise and inbound rain is coming from door and window seals... is there anyone locally that has replacement window seals, or an aftermarket solution to this? the seals in mine seem to be hard plastic inserts designed to stop fingers getting stuck in the window seam rather than to stop liquid. Any tricks on fitting doors properly so the seals touch the body?

Thanks in advance, I know, lots of questions for a new guy, I've had this thing for about 8 months now, have put tons of work into it... but its still not 'quite right'. (I learned from my Bronco that it will never be so, but hey ho).

Just a forum member for now, will wait to get it past inspection and insured before i pay dues (you dont accept EB's in your Landy club do you?)

Yes, thats my 110, taken in north western Scotland this past December (not sure which loch that is tho).

As for a little more about it:
'87 110 csw chassis
On its 3rd engine (first was a v8, replaced in '95 with a Iveco diesel and when that was 'accidentally' run with no oil in Africa it was replaced in '02 with a crate 300 TDI)
Old man emu springs/lift(i think, any easy tell-tales?)
arb locker in the rear, compressor + 2nd bat under seat
extra cap fuel tank (the add-on kind that fits under the rear fender, 40l water tank on the other side)
I gutted the inside last fall and put in a bunch of sound deadening stuff in the rear tub and doors, and built a sliding sleeping deck/parcel shelf.
Oh right... AC... aftermarket kit that takes up 3" of legroom... that's getting redone fairly quick I think, im a fairly tall bloke and shoe-horning myself into the drivers seat isn't fun.

Also, i tend to ramble, but hey ho :)
TONS of cool stuff on this board, reading all about the CANOL expedition stuff, looks like you boys are into your longer type trips rather than weekend warrioring rocks and mud at stave... yay!

Welcome, I just had a 92 Range Rover inspected here in Port Coquitlam and it cost me $100, basically they checked all the safety components (brakes, glass,lights,steering,...) I dropped off the truck at lunch came back a couple of hours later the paper work was done. If your close to Port Coquitlam and interested I can send you the address of the garage.
