The Rover-Landers of BC

All,

As reported in the Van Isle section, Thursday evening Cyndi was driving her Disco down Sherman Rd towards Canada Ave in Duncan, and an early-twenties idiot in her parent's new Toyota Yaris drove towards Cyndi on the wrong side of the road. Cyndi slowed down, and finally stopped, but the aforementioned idiot drove right into Cyndi head on; Cyndi was blocked on both sides and had nowhere to go.

So, Land Rover fared much better than the Yaris, but has a mashed front end, and Cyndi spent the evening at the hospital. Doctor doesn't think there's permanent damage (to Cyndi -- he was non-committal about the Disco), but she has a lot of soft tissue injuries. The last two nights have been difficult for her, even with meds.

Before buying the Disco I read that they fare well in crashes, which seems to be the case. Cyndi wants another D1 or 2 (SE7).

Glad to hear your wife didn't get badly injured! And that the truck took the hit so well.

Is the frame bent? The damage looks fairly superficial otherwise. You should check whether they'll let you buy it back. Columbia Rovers in Oregon has lots of these parted out and the parts are fairly cheap.

I had a similar idea since the heads were just done. ICBC doesn't open until tomorrow, so it's just been sitting in the Cowichan Towing yard. I'll be in contact tomorrow.

Third day and Cyndi's in more pain, so I'll take her to a walk-in clinic today for documentation.

Cyndi's leaning towards a '99 - '02 Range Rover 4.6 for towing purposes. It'll have more room too.

If ICBC writes it off even if it can be repaired theres no way to register it again, maybe in another province but not in BC. I agree that it doesn't look too bad (heck of a lot better than the yaris!) But with ICBC ya never know what theyre gonna do.

Glad to hear Cyndi made it out alright, any idea how fast the other car was travelling?

Cyndi thinks the other car was going at least 70kph, as the other driver was going faster than the traffic going beside her in her direction (in the lane she should have been in), and the usual pace on Sherman is about 60kph, with a speed limit of 50.

I thought there was a rebuild title in BC, no?

Good to hear everyone is ok for the most part.
I have a rebuilt car. :( but its not my rover :) ICBC does sell cars for rebuild at auction, I have asked point blank to an adjuster. It needs a safety inspection after the rebuild, from what I understand. When you talk to the adjuster, ask them about it.
I will keep my opinion of ICBC to myself at this point.
