Portland ABFM, Land Rover is the featured Mark this year

#1 Post by TDLightweight » Thu Sep 02, 2010 6:51 am

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone is planning on going to Portland ABFM this coming Labour day weekend? Land Rover is the feature mark. As shows go this is a monster and one of my favorites for the following reasons.

1) Good Land Rover turn out (I have never seen less than 20 trucks)
2) Cheap accomodation, you can camp on site.
3) Great people (both community and organisers)
4) Good size swap meet.

I am on the fence myself, Olive's transmission is still in the shop
and my Toyota van would needs some attention before undertaking 7 hours of highway cruising.

Here is the link for the show.

Sadly I have decided to stay home.

Rover wise hopefully I can put some time into getting the safari roof and roof top tent on the truck and putting the soft top back in storage. This is being done in the hope that the truck will be drivable to the North West Challenge for camping purposes at the very least.

Have fun down there. If anybody asks about me, just tell em' "next year" :P

Photos are now posted in the gallery and no Andy it didn't snow on us in Portland. Lots of fun down there and a great turnout. Highly recommend making the effort to get down there next year.

Hey Bill / Dave V,

Nice photos, thanks for posting them up!

Sure looks like a good turn out. Do you know how the turn out of Land Rovers compare with other years?

Cheers,
Andy

Great Shots! :D

Looked like a great turnout of Rovers and a lot of fun.

Are those the Canol Ramps by chance?

Yes Dave those are the Canol ramps. Pete was kind enough to lend them to Dave and they worked perfectly for loading Hermoine. Andy, I'm not sure what a regular turnout looks like for this event but by all accounts they made an extra effort this year for a good Land-Rover showing.

really appreciate the canadians coming down for this. We had about 100 rovers pre-registered before the event so I would assume there were about 150 rigs when all was said and done. I'm always amazed the number of rigs that come out of the woodwork that i've never seen before at this event.
