Leaking coolant, costly repair estimate $

Brought my Landy into dealership to find the cause of the TC ABS lights to remain on, as well as slow coolant leak, thinking it would be a 'small potatoes' quick fix. I wish I knew about these LR forums sooner!

Was given bad news that I apparently need another new radiator (which was replaced 8 months ago by an independent mechanic), head gaskets, repair to an oil leak.. after they performed a pressure test (?) Majority of coolant is leaking from rad.

I've been told it should all be done together.. but does anyone have any insight about what should be tackled first/immediately?? Coolant has been leaking slowly..and engine overheated once this summer.

Looking for a reputable local LR mechanic in the Lower Mainland :angel11: Not going back to my last mechanic for obvious reasons. Your recommendations greatly appreciated!

Love my Disco.. and not quite ready to let it go.

Hi Disco11Gal,

I wouldn't of thought you would need a new rad if the other one is only a few months old? (unless the replacement wasn't actually a new rad but a used one)?
Anyhow, definately get the water leaks fixed first. Because of the aluminum parts in the engines they can warp very easily if they get too hot. As soon as you see the temp gauge going into the red its time to stop right away, let it cool and add some more coolant/water.

Like Dave says above, take it into one of the above listed local independant Land Rover shops and have them take a look.

Good luck,
Andy

Hi Andy

Will be bringing it in early this week for a peek .. I've contacted one of the listed shops!

*Fingers crossed*

Better take care of the coolant issues first.. Guess the TC/ABS repair will have to wait for now.

Thanks!
