Dying Soft Tops

Just thought I would throw this out there...
Has anyone had success re-dying a canvas top. I have heard that masonry paint is good and also that Thompson's water seal comes in interesting tints.
I use canvas tent waterproofer every year on my soft top which works really well to waterproof it but after a few year my beautiful olive drab roof is getting a bit "bleached" out.
Any suggestions appreciated.
I am still working on my transmission woes (see previous post) but this may be the next job.
