What does one do for seatbelts when installing a canvas top? My SIII station wagon has the shoulder harness anchors in the top. Thoughts?

This item has ended, but I've seen them from time to time. It would actually be quite easy to make.

Military series III's and defenders had roll bars with integrated attachment points for shoulder belts. My 90 came with one and some of the members or local parts guys have them laying around. Try Roverworks or UK Trek and Traction up here in BC, not sure where to send you in Washington. Whether they will sell them is another matter. Like Dave says, if you have the means you can fabricate something yourself that will function.

My soft top series truck only had lap-belts, not sure of the regulations in Washington (or BC come to think of it).

Does anyone know what year that lap belts were used up to in Land Rovers?

Are lap belts even legal here? I would imagine if the vehicle came with Lap belts that there is some kind of "grandfather clause".

I remember in the UK that lap belts were common in a lot of cars in the 70's

I went with a roll bar out of a toyota landcruiser and welded in tabs, but the whole purist land rover option had already been shot for me quite some time before

I got a seat belt ticket in my 65 rover, it didn't have any... the cop even pulled the book out to show me as I thought the vehicle was exempt... anything made during and after 1963(December I think) is required to have a seat belt... I'm assuming that lap is fine. So now instead of being thrown clear of the accident I'll stay seated tight and become a paraplegic, either way bad news...

Allen: When I take the hardtop off my Series 3 swb for the summer I mount the the upper mount of my three-point seat belts via the hole that carries the long bolt which helps secure the hard top just behind your shoulder. It works perfectly and it is a quick, simple solution .

I am no expert but I think that you want to be careful about doing that. From what I understand it is not a good idea to have the shoulder belt anchored at a location below the height of your shoulder without incorporating a suitable guide as in the event of an accident the forces involved will do damage to your collar bone.
