Whipsaw trail - July 25th & 26th

Hi Guys and Gals...
It appears we have a little calendar date clash with two of our July Activities.
As there is a few of us who wish to attend both activities we have had to make an executive decision and move the Whipsaw run back one weekend to July 25th and 26th
This is allowing us to fit in the Canol Road River raft testing on July 18th & 19th (location probably in the Squamish area, to be confirmed soon).
Cheers, :D

Thanks Andy,
Do we have a tentative plan for the trip (which route in - Hwy 3 vs 5; where and when does the group meet - 10am at Hope Chevron; etc)?
Cheers
Ray

Hi Ray,
We were discussing the pro's and con's of running the trail south to north and north to south depending on what we wanted to achieve as far as trail maintenance. I will let Shawn post the final decision.
I am pretty certain we will be heading up Highway 3 so we can meet you along the way. It will more than likely be a Friday afternoon departure from Whatcom Road exit.
Times to be posted soon ......
cheers,
Andy

We will be making the trip from south to north, so we will drive up highway 3 and enter at whipsaw creek. We will leave Friday night and drive a little way up the trail to camp. We will be repairing signs and installing new ones and picking up garbage. The person who picks up the most beer cans will get apple cinnamon pancakes for breakfast (cooked with brown sugar and maple syrup) yum! When we reach Lodestone we will post some new signs and plant some grass and tidy up the loo. We will be taking our time. Be prepared for heat, cold, wet, sun and bugs. O’Doul will keep all bears and other unsavoury critters away.

Hmm, the change of date makes it a possibility that I may be able to make it - with Matthew (one of my children) along to help too.
Just a couple of questions - how do I get to the start point? what time on the Friday would I need to be there? Do I need to bring any special gear to help with the cleanup?
Thanks, David.

Yes, good question, what should we bring along to do the work? Garbage Bags, tongs, hammers, nails, etc?

Ok first question where do we meet- 6:00 pm Tim Horton’s at the Whatcom road exit just after Abbotsford. The address is 2054 Whatcom Rd Abbotsford v3g 2k4. This should give us enough time to drive up and set up camp just before dark. Tanks should be filled in Hope. Alternately you can meet us at the Whipsaw creek turn off approx 10 k south of Princeton or if heading north the first 30k max speed corner after the strip mine at approx 8:30 - 9:00pm. No special equipment required, but be advised there are no loo's on the trail so bring a shovel, a garbage bag would be nice. We should be able to run almost the entire trail on Saturday so Sunday a person could leave early or stay to try some other trails. We may decide to go home via Champion as it's faster.

we are returning from another camping trip on Friday, so probably not enough time to restock the truck and the cooler and head out again on Friday evening.
I think we will need to head up on Saturday morning and meet you guys up there.
Does anyone else want to go up early on Saturday morning with us?
Ray

Confirmed, I will be coming up on Saturday morning. I only know the way as far as where we got stuck in May, so if anyone can post a GPS (Garmin or KML File) that would be helpful. Otherwise leave a trail of breadcrumbs, or oil....

This should work...
I've saved a zip file of the 3 most popular formats of waypoints. Right click on the link below to download to your computer, then use an expander utility to extract.
http://www.roverlanders.bc.ca/waypoints ... -south.zip
Let me know if it doesn't work and I can email them to you.
Chances are very good that we'll camp Friday night a waypoint 16, 18 or 23.
cheers, Dave

Ray just remember this is no where near where we went in May. I imagine you will see that on your GPS.

So far I'm in and will meet at the creek (aiming for 8pm to hang with my little guy) Is anyone else bringing their little navigators?
I have a couple of variables that may prevent my trip but so far looks like possibly maybe.
Thanks

It looks like I'm in. ... Depending on when I can get out of here! Does anyone need to stop in Princton for gas before the trail or all you guys run diesels?
still meeting off of #3 for now.

Good to see you can make it Flyingcatfive and Cal. Definately some petrol engines along. Fuel is available at Manning Park East Gate if you arrive before they close which I think is 8ish in summer. If your coming down from the north then Princeton is your best option.
