Anyone Going Out Next Weekend?

I've got a brand-spanking new LR3 for testing purposes, and am hoping to get a few other Land Rovers out... after all, the only thing better than a photo of a Land Rover is a photo of 12 Land Rovers!

And yes, if my suspension comes in next week, I'll be tag teaming with a coworker so I can drive my Series truck up as well.

No but if you have any question about the LR3 let me know. I work/worked for Land Rover NA and was part of the driver instructor team in Montabello, Quebec for the North American launch of LR3. Did you deal with Barbra Barrett?

Yes, initially... however she has someone else handling the press vehicle bookings. Are you in Vancouver? I'd love to discuss your thoughts on the vehicle over a brewski or two.

Well since I am already on my second LR3 I figure I better get in there and tell you what it really can and can't do, lol....When you heading out and what's the agenda? What are you testing and do you have the lockers on it?

Are you going out this weekend or weekend of April 4th ?

Posted: Sat Mar 28, 2009 11:44 am

I'm thinking April 4th. I have a Lincoln right now that probably won't make it too far off road.

Ok sounds good...i may be able to make that trip

Posted: Sat Mar 28, 2009 3:51 pm

Sounds like fun I might be in on the 4th, any idea where you might be heading? Thanks, John

I might suggest Harrison/Hale creek area....we could do some hill decent demo's etc. on a few little trails along the way.

Posted: Sun Mar 29, 2009 3:37 am
by dfritter
Yeah I concur... somewhere nearby, and Harrison's good for photos! Although could we possibly make it April 5th?

Posted: Sun Mar 29, 2009 6:57 am
by PaulC
Yup 5th is ok to.

Posted: Sun Mar 29, 2009 10:24 am
by dfritter
Alright then, the fifth it is. Say 9 am, Whatcom Timmies?

Posted: Sun Mar 29, 2009 11:36 am
by JC
OK the 5th sounds good I am in and I'll bring the camera just in case you need some extra shots. Do you have a local of this Tim Hortons (assuming Timmies?). What are you doing for the LR3 is this something for Landrover? Should be fun...

All the best,
John

Are you picking up the press LR3 from Land Rover of Richmond? And when?

I might just meet you at the Sasquach Inn depending how late i work Friday. Do you want to PM me a cell#

Posted: Sun Mar 29, 2009 4:24 pm
by dfritter
Hahah, yeah I'll PM both of you my phone #. Jaguar/Land Rover actually operates their press fleet out of MCL, and as for the Tim Hortons, it's just off Highway 1 at Whatcom Road, although we can meet up at Sasquatch Inn too... it's up to you guys.

Hi Stuart

Yup why not. I think it would be 9am Whatcom TH and/or 10am at Sass where i'll be waiting :D

by JC
Hey guys yes I'll just meet you all at the Sass Inn at 10am as I know where that is and then I guess we'll head up to Hale Creek area a pretty good run area. See you all there, my cell is 604 612-8436

MCL... If you haven’t already done so, you may want to give your contact at MCL a call a make sure they don't delivery you an LR3 with running boards (unlikely...you never know), installed and locked trailer hitch, bike rack etc.

Posted: Mon Mar 30, 2009 6:15 pm
by dfritter
Actually, they put the fleet at Land Rover of Richmond, and the vehicle has no accessories, although I do believe I spotted the locking differential option on the order sheet.

But it's black.

Yikes.

Hahahaha

But on another note, I now have a trio of Land Rover products in my driveway, and I'm feeling pretty damn good about my life.

I was wondering, it is not clear to me if the HDC works in backwards. I was climbing a hill with a friend and my Glendawagon could not go on even locked so backwards and skid marks on the lederhosen. His Disco was the same.

Posted: Mon Mar 30, 2009 8:32 pm
by PaulC
In Discovery 2 and LR3 it does work in reverse...but there are target speeds for each gear ratio (5 speed transmission, two speed transfer case equals 12 different target speeds for HDC)....can't remember what it is for Discovery 2 reverse, but in may have been a little fast for the circumstance and the moment you apply brake or throttle you override HDC, which may explain a bit of lock-up.

Another truck

If you're open to another truck, I might be able to join you on Sunday

I have a slightly modified Disco I

I have to wait for my weekend plans to firm up later this week.

Cheers,

hi guys im new to the board but im quite interested in joining you all for some off-road fun.
just a few questions if that is ok.

i have a 2007 range rover sport supercharged on cooper zeon ltz m+s rated tires.
do i need extensive off-road mods to off road with u guys?
im not sure how extreme u guys go.

i have some off-road experience.
i did the land rover off road school in montebello, que and ive also gone to a local off road event with richmond land rover.

i hope i meet the requirements as id love to get out there again and drive the truck the way its meant to be driven.

Also can u guys tell me an exact address on where to meet? (april 5, Tim Horton 0900 Whatcom road or Sasquatch Inn?)
is there anyone coming out of richmond?

Posted: Wed Apr 01, 2009 5:41 pm
by PaulC
You should be fine, just no running boards or rear bike racks etc. You do have to take extra care avoiding heavy contact with the tire sidewall.

If you have participated in a Land Rover of Richmond Event, we have already meet, I’m the instructor they hire to help them out on the Wheels Events.

Montebello is a great school, did you get out on Le Crush (as we call it) or did you do the obstacle course?

I spent more than 3 months in Montebello during the North American launch of LR3...lots of rock, mud and fun.

Posted: Wed Apr 01, 2009 6:30 pm
by DBrands
Just wondering how long you guys intend to be out there?
I might be interested. I'll have to throw some sort of roof
on the Series IIA, just incase there is some rain.
I might feel a little out of place though.
Youngest guy, with the oldest truck?

I would say we might be back at the Sass between 3 and 5pm just depends on what we get up to. It's pretty easy to break away early if you have to.

by jikjak
oh cool! nice to meet u again then!

i did the whole day at montebello so we started out with the obstacle course and then ended up going out into the woods. it was a lot of fun.

is this off road day going to be similar to the land rover richmond one or will it be more 'interesting' ?

also hows the branches and stuff?
is it quite overgrown out there?
im just thinking if i should slap some painters tape on the sides of my car.
(flame suit on)

Posted: Wed Apr 01, 2009 8:50 pm
by PaulC
Well unlike the Wheels Events we will be a smaller group and more mobile and able to manoeuvre on tight dead end trails (imagine turning around 15 or 20 Land Rovers at the end of a tight trail    ), amongst other limiting factors with Wheels Events.

Your paint will get minor to medium scratches....most wont be significant...if your overly worried about scratches, this may not be for you...I would forget the painters tape for protection.

Anything the painters paint could stop would not likely damage your paint....branches that will damage your paint will not be stopped by painters tape.

if there is space for one more, and if kids are welcome, then we will try to join as well. We just moved back to BC and are looking for friends to offroad with.

I am coming from Ladner, so close enough to Richmond that we could convoy out, but you will not likely want to crawl along at the speed my 200tdi puts out.

im not too worried about the scratches. most things buff out anyways after a detail.

i just thought that the painters tape would save some work and elbow grease when its time to detail the car.

either way id love to join you guys if thats ok.

is there anything i need to do or bring beforehand?

OK we are looking forward to it too.

Can I please ask some questions on logistics (since I am bringing kids, I need to be prepared...).

Lunch - is the plan to just eat some sandwiches on the trail? Or stop by the lake and have a sit down lunch? Or something else entirely?

Ending time? I know that anytime you go offroad there are no guarantees, but is the plan to be back out around 5-6pm? Or earlier? Later?

Again, I am fine either way, just need to set expectations for the family.

So, I was just informed that I am required to attend church tomorrow, which means I will definitely not be making it out with you guys tomorrow.

Drat, blast, and a smorgasbord of four letter words come to mind. I gotta say, I was looking forward to this...

But, given the forecast, it looks like you guys will have a pretty good day out tomorrow!

Also, another journalist named Budd was hoping to go out in my stead, however, he will not have anything capable of doing the trail... so if someone could possibly take him along, he'd really appreciate it! He's hoping to write a story on the Harrison trails, as well as review a few of your guys' trucks... if so, he'll be at the Sasquatch Inn at 10.

PaulC, he's really hoping to talk to you, since you're an instructor!

Alright...next time then, I'll be there and I'm full of opinions....some of them from experience and some from training and some from instructing folks who should only ever ride the bus.

Jikjak,

bring along your FRS if it's easy for you, they operate on UHF, so my VHF/UHF set can communicate with you.

See you all at 10am.

I'm afraid I'm not going to make it either. I've been away for over a month and there is to much on the to do list.

Oh well, it will give me time to give the Disco some of its spring service.

While not compulsory, it would be preferable to keep all the photos in the photo gallery. This makes it much easier for future visitors to the website to view the events.

I have posted some photos in the gallery of the impromtu run up to Hale Creek last Sunday. Check out Ray Hyland's very cool Ex-Singaporian Swat team 110 and the little blue 88. Also the RR sport which I think is the first one out with us on a trail run. Sorry I'm bad with names but it was great to see some new enthusiasts out.

Hi Paul

I am looking for a power steering pump. I have one that I had rebuilt for the 110 when it had the 3.5 in her but the pulley is not the same as the 3.9 in the disco. I dont know if I can change the pulleys from one to the other?
