I don't know of anyone who'll work on Land Rover's specifically in Smithers. If it were me, I'd be inclined to replace rather than repair your transmission. there's a fair number of Discovery Series Is in the wreckers by now, or being parted out by the various shops down south. Look for a used transmission, and you should be able to find any local shop to swap it for you up there.
The only complications I'm aware of is the finicky job of removing the shifters and drilling out the rivets in the centre console, and the 4 extra tight bolts on the flex plate. I've fought with these 4 bolts for hours on several tranny swaps I've worked on, and finally I asked Keith robinson how he does it -- simple, he says, remove the oil pan of the engine and you have easy access for an impact gun. The last one I did, I used Keith's method and it was easy.
Auto Wreckers to check would be Pro Truck in Abbotsford, A-Combined in Abbotsford, or Coast Import Parts on Mitchell Island. However, you may be better to contact Keith, Don or Allistair, the owners of the 3 indy shops in the lower mainland as they may be able to negotiate you a better price than calling the wreckers directly.
cheers, Dave
