Just fix your truck so i passes the inspection properly or.......please steer clear of everyone in BC.......go back to Alberta and stay there, BC roads with are not a dumping ground for substandard vehicles.......if you don't want to have a Land Rover that will pass a vehicle inspection the correct way...don't waste everyone's time by asking them to be a dishonest....BC doesn't want the likes of you to endanger us law abiding citizen's, and where i hail from is NOYFB.

i know this is a waste of time talking to you.....as it sounds to me your just a user, not caring about anyone but your pathetic self and the junk you bring in from another province and expect the BC public to give you carte blanche to there highways and public roadways.

What I have read is that small bruises are acceptable provided they are out of the field of view and don't look as if they will travel. If it is a "crack", that may or maynot be acceptable. Seatbelts have to be securely fastened and in good shape. I have seen some pretty poor examples that have passed that I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing. But I think it is the mounting issue with yours that you seem concerned with. Use a grade 8 nut & bolt and have a backing plate so it won't tear through the tub. I'm not sure if anyone here might be able to post a list of requirements for a safety check but you might be able to find it online at ICBC.

The list is a bit weird, you can have a brake or tail light out but you can't have torn upholstery. (go figure) Floor mats can't be torn. No holes are allowed in the floor or firewall (boots for shifters and E brake have to be good). Door seals have to be there and in good shape. Brakes have to be in good shape and the tester has to remove the drums to check them. The pedal must become firm no closer than 60 or 75% of the way to the floor. (I can't remember which but I think it is 75%) Exhaust has to be in good shape and no closer than 1 inch to the fuel tank and away from the fuel line. External rust can't present a hazard to bystanders. (sharp edges) I had to weld a few holes in my front door posts. Steering components have to be good and less that 1 inch free-play in the steering wheel. Toe-in has to be correct. Springs and shocks have to be in good shape. Lights and turn signals have to work, mirrors have to be there and in good shape. (I think you don't have to have a mirror on the curb side unless maybe you have a righthand drive.) Windshield wipers have to work and be in good shape including washer if fitted.

It is worth reading the official list if you can find it. The check cost me $98.00 at a friends shop. He did it right because it was his signature going on the dotted line. I beleave that was his regular price for the service, I wasn't looking for favours. You should be able to find a shop to do it for a simlar price (+ inflation, mine was 2 years ago) The shop should also be able to give you a guideline of requirements.

I recently returned to BC from Alberta... my significant other had to get her 2002 Civic inspected. This car was originally from BC... has only 35000 kilometers on it and is well maintained... sadly, after only 10 months away from the coast it now fails the BC inspection... tires are perfect, brakes, steering, suspension all perfect... totally safe... except according the BC system... the dime-sized stone chip (professionally repaired none-the-less) poses a risk to life and limb of the BC motoring public!

So now, $500 worth of windshield later, the BC system has determined her car to once again be safe. When I consider all the total "crap" is see driving around town and rattling down the highways sporting vaild "BC" plates I really wonder about the quality or reliability of the "system" sometimes.

I hope you find the right wrench-puller who can maintain a reasonable balance between beaucracy and reality... good luck and Rover on!

Hey Muriel1972, I'm really sorry clowns like Boppic feel the need to let out all their pent up sexual frustration on some poor guy who is just trying to keep his/her truck on the road. Greg S. is pretty much right on the money, I'm sorry that I can't recommend anyone specific but having a chat with the guy doing the inspection before hand might give some indication of how strict he will be. I have a friend who was permitted to rectify small issues before the mechanic closed off the inspection thereby negating the need to spend another inspection fee. Most reputable places will not let a bad truck out on the road, after all it's their licence. A good shop will however sometimes assist you in passing without breaking the rules.
