During the last 2 days of the mines and mountain, run, and over to Granite city and then home. The rover. [1965 IiA. 109] Has had dificulty running over 40 miles an hour, top speed. i had some vibration from not airing down on bumpy roads, loosen the exhaust header. and that was tightened. and the intake as well. i checked the puugs, and a sweet light tan colour all along. the engine runs fine and revs, to seemingly the top rpm, with out the geers engaged. all vacuum lines are fine. and carb is bolted tight. Just goes through the gears all okay. but the slightest incline and the power dropps. i down shift. and it goes to the bottom gears so fast, most of the HOPE PRINCETON was done in 1st or 2nd, on any grade. the little hump of the VEDDER RIVER BRIDGE, west bound had to be taken out of overdrive. [Laughs and snickers now please.lol]
The truck recorded speeds to 107 kph. on the run easst with full load, and pulled fine up to the top of RODERICK DHU. over 6000 ft. THIS ALL STARTED ON LEAVING MIDWAY. for the trip to PRINCETON. i had a rear seal replaced in princeton. and asked about the manifold, leaks and had to replace a nut on the header to exhaust pipe. and all was tight. so off we went to stay over night at granite city.
that was pathetic mostly 1st and 2nd gear.
Now here is the kicker.in all the looking for the problem with gregg. FROM THE CLUB we noticed the distributor was loose, it is a brand new petronics. and the is a hot coil. plugs are champion and gapped to.30.
so all that is as was. Is it possible the truck can runn perfectly smooth and idle fine. and just not pull like it should. it is sunday morning. so all you quarter back s have at this till i have to take it some where monday. please. ? ask questions. i am at a loss. and no the floor mat is not on top of the gas peddle stop. lol. it was in colemont. . all the best. HELP. I WANT TO GO CAMPING NEXT WEEKEND. . RICK.M, 604-309-1877. [email protected]

Compression...
Hi Rick,
Just curious if youve had a cylinder compression test lately? If so what were the results?

what am i missing.
Thanks ANdy. I will this week, it is on the list, all the best. i am guessing timing, cause the distributor turns freely an 1/8th of a turn.

Yes, check the timing and then tighten when its about 2° after TDC. Often the truck will start and idle with severely retarded timing - up to 20° in some cases, but won't have power under load. So if its loose by an eighth of a turn, that could indicate its just come loose and your timing is off.

I've had a similar problem and found the linkage for the throttle had slipped so the pedal wasn't opening the carb all the way. No load on the engine, you don't need the throttle plate open all the way to rev up, but you sure need it to open all the way when driving. I find it easiest to adjust it with two people. One holds the pedal to the floor, the other sets the adjustment so the throttle plate is wide open, then tightens all the holding nuts.
My symptoms were very similar to your's but I could get as high as 80 kph. Seems a previous owner was oblivious to the lack of power. He just expected it because it was a Land Rover.

Well, the follow up is, The timing was a little off, and i did put on new brakes, Thanks Don, M, and had the drums turned and the brakes installed On the by pass in LANGLEY AT ACCURATE BRAKE AND MUFFLER. Oh and they found the peddle was out of adjustment, [That makes you and Dave the winners, Greg]. It was the linkage just to the right of the bulkhead, . on the engine side of the peddle. it had slipped a huge amount., and I took out the champions. and put in NGK,S with the radio resistor rating. hope it help all the radio,s. lol. now. i did a free way run from the border to KING GEORGE nad back. and got a gps over the ground spped of 110,km,s. in both directions. with the overdrive in. so will call that a week, . Now i have to clean the beast up and head to MINTER GARDENS, on sunday early.. rick.m. thanks all. for the input.,
PS> I had jim also add a stainless steel vibration joint in the exhaust system to stop the manifold from loosening, on rough roads.
