Def 90 rear hub oil seals effected by heat?

Both hub oil seals on my D90 started weeping sometime in the last week or so. Any chance they are adversley effected by the hot weather? It just strikes me a bit odd that they both decided to do it at the same time.
Also, anywhere I can get replacement seals localy? I'm not exactly sure which type of axle it is, but I'm assuming the earlier single seal type until I can get the hubs apart and have a look. Replacements for this type are $3.50 each plus P+P from the UK.
Thanks! David.

Sounds like you may have a plugged rear diff breather. I'd do some testing of that before pursuing the seals...
cheers, Dave

Dave,
I've found most seals locally on 'cross-over' references. My local Lordco has a couple of desk guys that will help with this... Phil & Tim. On the other hand... found sea lions and other marine bad breath mamals locally too....

Thanks for the tip Dave, will check the breather. JD - If I have to take the hub apart I'll have a go with Lordco for a replacement before ordering some by mail. Cheers, David

Hi David,
I agree with Dave, check the diff breather!!
We stock the double lip, double spring, oil type hub seal for the early model defenders.
Genuine landrover retail is $24.54 each.

Don, Dave, JD,
Well, checked the breather and it looks ok, but taking it off could well have unclogged it. This an MOD vehicle, so has breather extensions which could be blocked, haven't had chance to blow some air through them yet.
I've not had time to take the hubs apart either, but have taken the wheels and brake drums off for a quick look-see. Interesting thing is that the hub caps where both half full of oil but after taking them off and cleaning up the end of the axle shaft and the hub driving member (cast bit with five holes in it) there are no noticable leaks.
The truck has been stood for a couple of hours now and there's not a drop of oil on the floor. I'm going to leave it with the wheels off in my shop for a week or so whilst I'm away on buisness and see what happens.
BTW - the axle turns out to be of the later type with both inner and outer seals. Bizarely I have a dozen inner seals in my box 'o bits, but no outers - how the heck did that happen! I'm going to be in the UK from Thursday so I'll pick some up whilst I'm there.
I'll keep you posted. David.

even better than lordco, find a bearing supply shop. in duncan here it's rayside. used to be bc bearing.
take them a bearing or seal, they whip out the calipers and go get you one.
they don't even ask what it's for.
usually for 1/4 the price of anywhere else.

Except that you do not necessarily want to replace it with what was in there. As Don says, you want to get the earlier style seal regardless of what was in there. It is much better.
