Brake springs

Hi All,

I'm in the process of putting new front brake cylinders on my 83 109. I have replaced many a shoe in my time, but for the life of me cannot figure out how to get the springs set. They are new.

Do I position the shoe, then set the spring (tuff because it's behind the hub and I don't have alot of room to use a screwdriver to pry them back in) or do I set the spring and then force the shoe into place. Should I start with the top in place or the bottom.

THis is the model with two cylinders per side...top and bottom.

Any and all help appreciated.

 I've always taken the time to pull the hub. Makes it a lot easier and and less frustrating. All the best

I've got freewheeling front hubs.

How much of a job is it to take them off as opposed to regular standard hubs?

Hi DAve,

I hope you didn't pull the hubs just to get the shoes on.

It's a snap to do with the right technic. But I think it too difficult to explain. Give me a call tomorrow.

Later,
