The Rover-Landers of BC

After picking up the x-mas tree this afternoon, was driving home when I heard a thunk come from the rear brakes (actually felt it) after I touched the brakes, then a bad brake smell.

Got it home and think I have a broken part in the rear drum brake somewhere. I got the truck on stands and removed the tire. When I rotate the drum I hear a clunking, grinding noise coming from inside.

Tried all the rest of the afternoon to get the screw out of the drum to remove and inspect...no luck...that screw is definitely seized. Any one have any ideas on how to get this out. I'm tempted to drill it out as I have read that the screw is really unnecessary anyway.

Help.

try one of those motorcycle impact screwdrivers .
You put the appropriate driver head in the handle (hardened steel )
Then whack the handle with a hammer and it forces the blade into the screw while imparting a turning action . Works like a darn on stuck screws .

Where can I pick one of those up?

Two things... soak it with WD40 for a few hours first, and wear leather gloves when holding the impact. I've pinched the palm of my hand in those impacts enough times that I've finally learned to wear gloves every time.
