I need new tires, and was in the middle of purchasing some Nokian LTs and have changed my mind. I am planning on heading up to the Kootenays Dec 16 - 23 (Nelson, Creston, Cranbrook, Fernie, etc.), and need some good tire recommendations.

BFG All Terrain T/A KO seems to be a good choice. They meet the Rubber Company Association of Canada severe snow performance requirement with the little snow flake symbol, and are great off-road as well.

What are my tire size limitations for a stock Disco I? Any other recommendations that come close to these?

I run the BFG/TA’a in the stock tire size and do perform very well in the snow. I also have a couple of sets of 245/75-16’s I use for trail duty.

The 245’s are going to rub at full lock up front (no big deal it doesn’t tear up the tire).

The rear (245's) they are going to contact the lower rear corner of the wheel opening when you start to articulate the rear suspension, I’ve trimmed the corner made it a little rounder no more rubbing.

I like the stock tire size for my street/snow tires as of course you get slower speed off throttle especially handy on snow covered conditions.

I am curious about the 245/75r16 size. Is the cutting necessary for normal driving, or for when the Rover is off-road and space is needed for articulation?

It is only for off road. It happens near full wheel articulation.

A little bit before full wheel stuff, the centerline of the tire is even with the lip of the body.
