Is there any way of holding a couple of kayaks on a 109 soft top? I'm thinking of mabey an exterior system...?

Has anyone ever done this, or have any ideas on how to pull this off.

I used to carry a canoe on a soft-top 88" by using pads between the canoe and the hoops so that it didn't rub the canvas too much but this wouldn't work for a lot of use I don't think.

I've always thought the racks on the Nicola Valley 130 would do most rovers really well. Pic is #23 in the 2007 Hut Lake photo album on this site.

I'm thinking you are refferring to the Rack on the Jeep? Is this a custom unit? I'm assuming that I would need to get one built up specifically for the 109.

Thanks...more ideas for me to ponder.

Dave,

No. Referring to the tubular rack on the 130 in the picture quoted. It is similar in construction to many pick-up style racks. Transfers the load right down to the bed rails and sits free of any roof style. Very robust.

Sorry, JD, I don't see it either. The 2007 Hut Lake album has 2 sub albums, one from Bill and one from Andy, and only Bills has a #23, which appears to be Phil's truck. Can you try again?

I think I've seen the pic you are reffering to , however the rack base would get in the way of the side tie downs I think???

There are the tow hitch style supports, you would have to use a regular "ladder" rack above the cab mounted on the gutters above the doors.

HMMMM....I think we may be on to something here... I could probably fab something similiar for the front bumper...or if I could either make or find one of those over the cab racks, I'd be in business...thanks for the help.

Cheers,

Dave

Dave F,

Barry at Yacht Metalworks made that rack for Stuarts double cab 110.

I'm sure he could custom make one to suit your needs.

You can call him at 604-985-4185.

Later,
Don

Hi Guys....

Barry did a great job on the Rack, he is a Club Member and loves Rovers...

You can go two routes... mine is attached on top of the box which means you may have to trim your softop or do an attachment similar to the NAS roll bars to attach to the body which will require less trimming on the soft top. Have a look at Barry's SIII which is set up to haul masts etc.

Here is another pic of my rack..

Good luck and I am happy to hear you are hauling kayaks, I have a couple to add to my roof for next summers outings.
