So? What makes a '55 Series 1 SW, a SW other than the Tropical roof and badge? Any special interior padding, door panels or anything?

Do we presume that you are speaking of a short wheelbase variant? If so it would have jump seats in the back and a rear door instead of the hatch/tailgate combination. I'm not sure if they had padding at the roof/side panel join to protect rear passenger head bonks.

Sorry, I should have been clear. I knew there were no LWB SW's in '55. I'm looking at a 1955 SWB. I don't know what they had in the way of an upgraded interior to make it a Station Wagon, or if it was simply some extra seats thrown in the back and a heavier roor tossed in for good measure. Current owner says it is a '55 but he can't find the papers.

I am no expert, but as I read it there were no stock SWB "station wagons" in '55. No 86" station wagons at all. Hard tops, yes, but no station wagons.

Even as early as '48 & 49, the third digit in the serial number reflected body style and included Station Wagon. In 48-49 a "2" indicated Station Wagon and in 50-53 Station Wagon was indicated by a "7". After that, as far as I know, there was no indication in the serial number whether it was a Station Wagon or not. I'm looking at a '55 with a tropical roof and badge on the back that says Station Wagon.

There were 80" Station wagons and later 107" and later again 88". But AFAIK, no 86" from the factory. Everything I read shows a gap in factory station wagons from 1952 to 1955 and no short wheelbase until the series 2A.

Unless every website out there is wrong, it is not factory stock.
