modified camshaft

Hello from a non mechanic landrover owner. i recently rebuilt my 2.25l series engine (under supervision) and put in a camshaft with greater lift (187 deg intake, 188 deg exhaust, .302 "int., .304"exh lift) than the stock camshaft. The solex carb isn't up to the extra requirement. I have increased the venturi to 36, put in a 160 main jet, and a 240 correction jet and it runs okay with these changes, provided there is no air cleaner at all. when throttle is increased rapidly, gas sprays out the top of the carb, (but at least the power is okay, as long as there is no air restriction).
I am contemplating either
1. pulling the cam and putting in a milder (closer to stock) cam (big job) or
2. switching to a dual weber carb setup and larger exhaust ($$).
Does anyone have experience with the second option? I would appreciate any advice, thanks, Ken.
