The Rover-Landers of BC

BC Tel used to have a number of Land Rovers. Does anyone know how to chase them down? Where they might have been sold?

I friend of mine says that he drove a specially built Land Rover with really big tractor tires on it. It was from the early 60's and he drove it in 1968. He thinks it was sold on in 1970.

Following his description, I took him a photo of a "Forestry Rover" that I read somewhere, Land Rover only made 20 of. He confirmed that was a photo of the same thing he drove.

Where did it go from there?

Hi Greg. i met at a ferry terminal last year who said he drove one with tractor tires on an island up the coast in the early 60,s it was servicing a lite house or power station , i forget, he said they left it there when he was done the job. all the best. rick.m

Sounds like the same story. Maybe you met Doug at the ferry terminal, except he knows it subsequantly got moved off the island and sold in about 1970

My first landrover 88 Ser IIA 67 was owned by BC Hydro, typical signs are a steel plate tying the upper and lower tailgate together and hinges to make it a side opening door. Plus the installation of a PTO Koineg winch off of the transfer box. My truck was cream coloured and now owned by Chris at Pacific Rovers.

I have pictures of a 86 Ser I with “Department of Fisheries” on it owned by a member here and living in Squamish.

I seem to remember Andre commenting that BC Tel had also bought some of the “Roadless Rovers” with the large tires, ENV axles and extended fenders.
