Now that I am back on the road, I was considering a locking diff. does anyone use detroit locker or another type of non air-locker? I just want to install something and forget it for ease of use. On and off road. Is front or back better? What do you recommend?

Maxi Drive, Maxi Drive, Maxi Drive!!!!!!!!!!!! Talk to Aart at UK Trek he'll hook you up. Vacuum lockers, with VERY solid parts. I've used them since 1997 with no trouble (including shafts)

If you are on a budget, get a Detroit in the rear. I got one for $250  The Maxi-Drive I had was $1800 with discount and being friends with the owner....
Despite all the horror stories you read about Detroits....I've had one for a year and never had any problems. I can't tell it is there other that the rare clunk. I've driven on every type of surface and off road up to very hard trails and other than doing what it is suppose to do, no problems, no strange or bad behaviour.
