Whipsaw Weather Update

After the Nicola Valley Clapperton Ranch Round-up, several vehicles left for home via Merritt/Coldwater/Coalmont. At Coalmont Dave and Pamela and Phil and Deb along with Shaun and John had enough time to press up towards Lodestone in an effort to see what the conditions are likely to be for the June Whipsaw run. The following is a description sent to me by Pamela.
"We were able to get an accurate assessment now as to where the road in is at in terms of snow and usage. We made it only a few hundred feet past the first main switchback. Being on the NW side of the mountain it was shady hence still snow lying about. It was snowing lightly when we were up there and brrrr - chilly.
Up to there the road was basically dry & bare.

We all called it quits at about the 5400 ft level as the snow became too much as the road became steeper. We were about 17.8 kms in so a few more kms to go to the Lake. However we all felt confident (despite the falling snow) that in 3 weeks we can tackle it again. It is melting at a good rate with a healthy amount of water running down the side of the road.
It looked like no one has been up to the Lake so far this season." :spinning:

Is there still likely to be an early July run as well. Like after the long weekend?? I have volunteered to help at the rally race near, Merritt on the June dates as i thought we were moving it into July, ?? rick.m

We are still looking at an early July run Rick . The June run is only to lodestone to work on the forestry site. However others may wish to try to carry on. The July run will be to clean the trail. Based on snow depth I saw yesterday we will need winches and chains to reach lodestone in three weeks, but hot weather is on the way so time will tell.

Did I hear "winches and chains" ???

Shawn, you can count me in for this one, all the way !

and Wes, I think this is a "Land Rover only" run.

Don't worry about Wes kris I'm sure we would be happy to winch him up.

This is one of our annual cleanup runs, and as such we've never limited it to just Land Rovers.

Seems to me you tugged a few Jeeps and Yotas along the trail a couple of springs ago when you did you first big snow conquest up there, Kris.

All I can say is if you're coming up in something other than a Land Rover not only your truck has to be tough — you've got to be prepared to take a constant teasing and ribbing from the Land Rover guys even if your truck does better than theirs! It's all part of the game.

Hmmmmm It may be a frieky coincidence but if you swap a couple of letters around in Rod Gland's name it makes another familiar name :wtf:

I belive Dieter is coming with his gear but I think he should swap that whimpy rear winch he's got (electric) if he's going to pull us up there, the duty cycle is just too short.

For this weekends run we will meet at Lodestone lake or on the trail to Lodestone Lake ,on Saturday mid morning. The plan will be to do a condition assesment of the site and paint 2 picnic tables and the outhouse if conditions allow. If you come remember this will be a tough run requiring winching , tire chains and enough food for two weeks (unless you can drive like John). Please leave wips at home . Wenches are, as always welcome.

Hey Shawn,
I've no winch or chains on my Rover yet, but I'm quite happy to be dragged up if necessary... I wanna try out my sand plates on the snow and I'm looking forward to testing out my new suspension and tires. I think we're heading up Friday evening so see you then!
