The Rover-Landers of BC

I'm off to look at a fairly low milage Discovery 1 that is for sale. The owner told me that when he bought it, it was leaking coolant at the hoses. It apparently turned out to be a partially blocked radiator that was causing pressure in the cooling system. No mention of whether the engine was overheating during this period. Right off that bat thats a red flag for me...

He said the rad was removed, flushed and re-installed which seemed to solve the problem. Coolant pressure high enough to blow through hoses has to have other evil effects, particularly wrt engine cooling...any thoughts on what I should look out for? I'm having a look at a few Discovery's and am not in a huge rush, so I'm happy to walk away from a lemon.

More likely its a head problem, with exhaust gasses leaking into the cooling system. It's a documented problem on the Rover V8, especially on the 3.5, but there has been a fair bit of discussion on other boards about similar on early Discoveries as well. I'd be pretty careful to have this checked out, as it may cost you an engine to get things right.
