COULD THE CLUB MEMBERS THAT ARE GOING TO THE ISLAND PLEASE INDICATE THEIR INTENTIONS RE ATTENDANCE AND TIMES HERE ON THIS FORUM THERE ARE ACTIVITIES ON SAT. AND A BREAKFAST AT A LOCAL RESTAURANT ON SUNDAY AM. WE CAN BRING FOOD TO SHARE . AND THERE IS CAMPING AVAILABLE ON HIS FARM. SATURDAY JUNE 19 TO SUNDAY 20TH. ARE THE DATES. :roll:

Here's the confirmed attendance (so far) and list of known "overnighters".

Jim - overnight. Will arrive with the Nanaimo convoy (probably noon-ish?). Breakfast at Doghouse: yes.
Food: Salads.

Steve Rogers - overnight. Will arrive Sat morning. Sunday breakfast at
Doghouse: yes. Workshop: The Many Uses of a Big Hammer.
Food: Ribs. Steve is also bringing event shirts and Land Rover videos!

Greg - overnight (Property owner). Supplying BBQ, TV & VHS, outhouse and shade-house (aka rain shelter?).

David - overnight. (Son of Property owner)

Derek - overnight. Food: Salmon and Taboli salad. Host of Welly Toss.
Workshop: How to phone Alan for help with a Rebuild.

Dave Looy - overnight.

Ogor - overnight.

Sunday morning convoy and breakfast at The Doghouse restaurant in Duncan.
Various workshops and "fix-it" sessions.

PROPERTY RULES:

Only "non-animal-chasing dogs" allowed.
If you come, you have to eat. No exceptions.
Try to bring something to eat or drink to share around (not a mandatory rule).
Bring a technical question or problem for someone to help you with.
Bring something for the swap meet (not mandatory).

This is being held on a working field. Please don't leave anything on the
ground when you leave that the horses might eat. No string, wire, nails,
elastics, broken glass. There will be several garbage cans available, A
water hose is strung down to the picnic site from the barn (drinkable but
sulfur smell & taste).

I'll continue to post updates as people join/confirm/add details.

Hi Jim,

My two hounds will chase the ocassional rabbit or squirrel, but are very used to -- and never chase -- horses, cows and cats as we have several of each. Is this what you mean by non-animal chasing? I would also tie them up overnight...

Hey Dave,

You'd have to ask Greg about the dog rules, as it's his property, and his horses.

I'm afraid, due to prior commitments I had forgotten about, that I won't be able to attend the Island run.

Please let Rick know whether you'll be able to attend. This sounds like its going to the highlight of the year for members of VanIsle Rovers.

Would be nice to have a good contingent of Roverlanders join them for the event.

Victor & I were out in my 109 SW Saturday checking out roads for a drive Saturday evening and another Sunday. Saturday drive is 32 kilometers and with stops I estimate it would take a group 2 hours. It is a "No scratches" greenlaning type route climaxed with a great view of the Gulf Islands and Cowichan Valley. It will be enjoyed by all, no matter the type of vehicle. Nothing technical but 4WD required at the mid point.

Sunday's route is a little harder and more challenging. I can get through the hardest place without winching but some of the vehicles with original leaf sprung articulation might find it more challenging. No problem though as we can pull or winch you through. The shinier vehicles should be warned that this route will likely leave some branch scratches. Nothing too serious but if you want a scratch free vehicle you may have to give it a really good wax afterward. It might be able to be done without branch scratches but it isn't anything I have ever really tried to do. I have stock overhang on my 109 and do touch the back crossmember in a few places but nothing damaging, just dirt.

No one needs to be left out as I am sure empty seats can be found for you. Sunday's trip shouldn't take more than about 2 1/2 hours unless people want to stop and play at a few of the places. It is about 40 kilometers.
This all depends on the forests not being shut for high fire hazard.

Of course, on our route checking I did need to use the winch once. I was showing Victor a mud/ play area. At the entry I was off-camber enough that I was "sort of" laying on my side. The mud bank seemed to be a little close to the side of the vehicle, in fact only about 10 inches outside my window. I wasn't really flopped on my side. Honest. If the cut bank wasn't there I probably would have still been on my wheels. This is near our Sunday trip but I'm not really planning to go there. If participants insist, we can make a detour to it and the wussy route to it( read "reasonable") is flat, wide and level.
