August 12 4WDABC Sunrise Lake Maintenance Event
I am very happy to announce that I have just signed a 5 year agreement between the Four Wheel Drive Association of British Columbia and the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and the Arts for continued maintenance of the Sunrise Lake Recreation Site. I consider this to be a great step forward in the Association's goals in ensuring continued public access to 4x4 trails and recreation areas.
Under the terms of the agreement, the association will continue to hold maintenance/cleanup runs to the site approximately every month (I plan on continuing hosting these runs on the 2nd Saturday of each month - departing from the Sasquatch Inn east of Mission at 10:00am SHARP!), but not less than once every three months. We will perform general cleanup and site maintenance/upgrade projects as we feel are necessary to ensure the continued enjoyment of the site. Our agreement puts us in the position of ensuring that the site remains to be available (at no charge) to all recreational users.
On August 12, we will performing a number of site upgrades. In particular:
1. The MTSA has provided us with a number of new signs for the site. The first will be placed (in 200+ pounds of concrete!) at the junction of the Sunrise Lake access road and the West Harrison FSR. The others are of the "Pack it Out" nature and will be placed up at the campsite.
2. We will be replacing a number of picnic tables at the site. The new tables will require assembly and painting -- and will need to be "ferried" up to the campsite from the parking area at the trailhead.
3. We will be evaluating locations on the "far side" of the lake as potential new campsites -- for future improvement.
4. We will be making a determination of any fire ring replacement requirements....which will take place during the September trail run.
Please consider joining us on August 12 and lending a hand in our efforts to improve the site. You certainly do not need to drive up to the campsite if the trail is beyond your comfort factor -- we can use the help both above and below v-rock (and there are lots of seats available for the upper section of the trail). Consider bringing a swimsuit on this run -- July, August and September is the time of year when the water is EXCELLENT for swimming.
If I can answer any questions about the trail, the Sunrise Lake Recreation Site, the Four Wheel Drive Association of BC, our agreement with the Ministry of TSA, or anything else about these trail runs, please don't hesitate to drop me a note.
Looking forward to seeing you on the 12th!

I'll be out at the Sasquatch Inn at 9:30....we leave from there at 10:00. Ryan picked up two picnic tables this morning as well as some extra planks to replace those up at the site which have been converted into heat. I have a new sign for the turnoff....and the concrete/tools to place it. Overall, it's sounding like there is going to be a lot of help tomorrow -- so I think we can be done in a few hours. After Sunrise, I want to head down to Hale to get an inventory of what's down there....as I'm pursuing a second agreement for the association with respect to that location.
For those who are wheeling (I can't this month....I'm 2wd at the moment), we'll arrange some trails depending on the number and types of vehicles attending. (Weaver-Francis has become reasonably challenging, and there are others in the area)
I'll be on CB ch 4 as well as the 2m FM amateur call frequency (146.520).
See you tomorrow!
