I am interested in hearing what some of you have done for paint jobs for your restoration/rebuilds.
Currently my series 2a is dismantled, so the pieces could be sprayed or brushed before reassembly. Colour change from red to yellow. (Intended use is for around town, and also for the occasional offroad. Not restored for shows ).
Thanks for any stories or advice. Ken

Ken last month I painted my 109. I first took off the doors, bonnet ,all lights name plates and anything bolted or screwed on. I then sanded the truck with a random orbital sander with a vacuum hook up. I did very little hand sanding as the fine grit on the RO sander seemed to do the job. I sanded it down to sound paint and in some cases bare metal. I washed the truck down with thinners and the masked the windows, wheels and anything I did not want painted. Sanding and prep time was about 36 hrs. I painted it with Devguard industrial urathane semi gloss from Devoe Coatings which I bought at ICI paints. I primed it first with Devoe Devguard tank and structural primer tinted just lighter than the final colour .Painting time was about 3 hrs. ICI had no problem tinting the paint to what I wanted. Cost for the paint and thinners was approx $140.00. I used my compressor (10 Gallon) and an inexpensive spray gun from KMS tools on the dirt floor of my shed. The result is fine for me as my truck is driven off road a lot and I did not want the finish too glossy. So far it has stood up well to branches and mud. By the way there is an excellent artical on painting in our technical information area.

Hi
This isn't really related to your paint, but if you are also looking at redoing some of your galvanizing there is an option when using the electrical plating system of galvanizing to make it come out "Black". It is still looks like galvanizing but it has a black tinge to its colour. When I re did my galvanizing I thought it might look good on the canary yellow D90s I had seen rolling around at the time.
Just an idea.
