Snapped half shaft semi floating series 1

Hi, I snapped a half shaft on my series 1 semi floating rear axle, or I’m pretty sure i did. I can spin the rear prop shaft by hand and no resistance in the rear diff. Any advice on replacing it? I have been looking at prices in the UK and seems real expensive. Thought or suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Check out cumbrialrseriessolutions.weebly.com they may have a used one.
I don't think you have much choice....either you repair it or you don't.... :rolly:

LRSOC has them and from what I recall the price isn’t that bad even if coming from the UK.

The LRSOC 1/2 shafts are the full floating type. You can adapt these to your rear axle but would need a custom spacer and other fittings.
Here is an article on repairing the rear semi floating 1/2 shaft

I'd check with the lads at the Ottawa Valley Land Rovers (
OVLR.CA). Quite a number have early S1's and might be able to help you, and they are closer than BC..... :bounce:

Call Bill at Great Basin Rovers in Salt Lake City.
He has lots of used Series 1 parts.

Similar to what Martin mentioned above, if you can't find the S1's at a price that doesn't require a mortgage, its a good option if you adapt 2 old hub flanges into 1/2" spacers then you can use the much easy to obtain (and cheaper) series 2/2a half shafts.
The Series 2/2a half shafts are a little longer so the spacers allow them to work and its hardly noticable to the untrained eye!
I believe I showed some details on the spacers on my 1956 Series 1 restoration project (you can find on the project tab).
Cheers
Andy
