2006 Defender Kalahari

Hello

I'm a Canadian expat in South Africa currently overlanding in Southern Africa with my Kalahari. The home base is Gordon’s Bay, Western Cape, South Africa.

My next long journey (2024 enshallah) will be up the west coast of Africa to the UK where I'll pick up a RORO to Halifax then work my way to Vancouver, with as many stops as I can afford.

The only change I made to the Kalahari was to replace the Wolf wheels with mags…Wolf wheels were from the factory. I don’t need the extra strength of the Wolf wheels plus I like the mags. Ten years overlanding and never had a puncture.

Once I reach Vancouver I must decide whether I drive back or part with it. A tough decision but it can wait until I arrive.

A classic Defender is a rare sight in Canada, but one with S. African plates will definitely stand out. Post some pics from time to time of your journey. Especially up through Africa would be something I would like to see. Cheers

Hello Robert,

Great to hear your choice of Defenders. I have two Kalahari's here in Vancouver, one with almost 200,000 km's and the other with only 3,000 miles.

I would also love to follow your journey so please keep us posted and I look forward to meeting you once you get to Vancouver.

Hello Stuart
I'm gobsmacked by your Kalahari with only 3,000 miles. That had to be an incredible find or are you the original owner. Does it have the original decal? If so it is indeed a find. My decal was created from a photograph although there is a wee patch at the bottom on one side which is original. You would certainly miss it if you were running to catch a bus.

I shall post pictures when I can.

Cheers

What a trip, thanks for sharing your intentions. I'm certain you're defender will find a good home in Vancouver should that become its fate. That's a great truck and there's a great community here whom would respect it and the heritage you've described!
