Hi there,

Has anyone had any experience in selling 25 year old defender in the US or know of a straight forward way to do it?

I was thinking about a car broker or something like that just to avoid any headaches.

I am selling my 1999 TD5 defender and hoping to track down a 2009/2010 Puma in Europe if I can find one...

Thanks ahead of time.

I’m under the impression that you will need to wait until 2024 when it actually is 25 years old.

I purchased my 88" from a seller in Victoria. Importation back into the States was very straightforward. I did not bother with a broker. I'd suggest, once the car is 25 years old, to advertise in your preferred outlets. Buyers won't have any issues with importing and you, as the seller, will be in the clear. Just make sure you have the correct registration and title work in hand to give to your buyer. I may be calling it the wrong thing for Canada, but that's what we have in the States (title and registration). When I brought the truck into the states, I just had all the correct paperwork ready to go. The customs officials had me redo one of them, but it was only because I incorrectly filled it out. They did a quick inspection of the Rover and I was off. It only took about 20-30 minutes. Once back at home, getting it licensed in Washington State was easy. The *only* thing that was a pain was valuation. They seemed to think it was worth something like $35,000US. I had to have the seller sign a form stating a true value and condition. The extra step wasn't hard, just a pain because of the added couple weeks for forms coming and going in the post.

Good luck. I think you'll find it isn't too hard.

That would be correct.
