The Rover-Landers of BC

Seems like time has finally caught up with the classic Defender. You can now get a tailormade electric conversion done on your "fume-spewing Land Rover Defender" :roll: I can only imaging how much the conversion will cost, but I'm sure there are some tree huggers out there who have enough spare change in their pockets to get this done to their old Landies. But if the Diesel price keeps rising, this is probably cheaper in the long run.

I looked at a tesla based EV conversion for my 90 and it would cost upwards of $40,000 and then only get 240km of range.

Yep, that's (110+k CAD) roughly the numbers I've been given to convert a 110 in decent shape.
Despite what the chap in the video says, "...the kits will not be available for DIY installation".

In this case waiting might make sense, given the better safety and energy density of solid state batteries.

There's a lot of knowhow that goes into retrofitting Tesla power trains into a classic vehicle. There's a dude on YouTube, SuperFastMatt, who has swapped in a wrecked model 3 underneath his classic Jag.

Super fun project to follow, but would not dream of undertaking it myself.

I think maybe the most promising option looks to be the Ford crate engine they're releasing to enthusiasts to retrofit their classic cars with an EV powertrain. Lots of problems go away: it'll have electronics, cooling, ancillaries, and everything you need without having to reverse engineer the multiple Tesla body controllers.

You guys should check out my neighbour on instagram. Webbmotorworks, Chris builds some amazing electric motors that look like stock V8's when you pop the hood. But again its not a cheap conversion.
