Swivel balls welded to diff case.

Hello all. I have a high capacity series 3 109 pickup.
The swivel balls are quite heavily welded to the diff/axel casing or better know as the banjo. Any idea why this would be? I think I’ll just use a flap disc on the grinder until the swivels are free. But maybe I need a whole new banjo case? Very weird I must say

Pretty sure that is not stock, maybe someone did it to stop the leaking?

Definatley not stock. It is just welded on the bottom so maybe to stop a leak. It would have been pretty easy to throw some gasket maker in there tho! Not to mention not a common place for a leak. I hope the weld isn’t to deep so I can grind it off and still have a usable casing.

That looks pretty brutal, good luck fixing that. Might have been a Toyota shop that did that. On the Landcruisers, the swivels are part of the axle, which is a worse design from a maintenance standpoint.
