I have been collecting capstan winch parts for several years now . My Landrover had a capstan when I bought it in 1984 but the complete driveline and brackets were home made by someone and it was very poorly done. Now I am restoring the vehicle I really wanted to get the proper parts for the winch. As anyone who has tried to find these parts knows , they can be very difficult to locate. The final shaft came in the mail the other day and it has been installed . Ran the engine and all working well , now I can continue with the restoration on the body work. Cheers Robin

Looks great! Nice work.

Yours looks very much like my 56 just 2" longer! I see its right hand drive, did it come over from the UK?

Cheers
Andy

Looks great. A word of caution .... never let ANYONE engage the dog clutch with the engine running. Always shut it off, engage and restart. I’ve heard horror stories of people engaging while running and breaking their crankshaft.

Yes Andy , it did come from the UK. It is one of 500 military Mk 5 88's built in 1957. It has been heavily researched by the military experts in the series one club in England. I have been restoring it for about 4 years and finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. Good point for newbies regarding winch operation , that be a horrific failure. Cheers Robin
