The Rover-Landers of BC

Hello, I am new to this forum.. I just removed my Leaf Springs from one of my (67 and 69)109's. one spring is higher (in Height)than the other and initially I was under the impression the springs were identical... now I am questioning if that is correct.. So can anyone tell me if there is a difference and how Do I identify them? I have tried to attach pictures along with a pic of the Land Rover Drawing showing the listing for two different spring numbers, but they will not download.

The taller rear spring goes on the driver side.

Welcome to the forum. As mentioned the taller spring / springs goes on the drivers side, its designed to allow for the extra weight of the driver,

Perfect Thanks Andy and Landcrabmechanic. that is what I was thinking based on some literature floating around. I am currently building up my two-door 109 because the frame is solid... and will move on to my four door in the years to come... Actually, my four door with a Chevy in-line six might go up for sale... but it is in rough shape. It has a new starter, Carb. rebuilt and distributor.

The original intent of handed springs was to compensate for the weight of the driver and the fuel tank in a rhd 88/109 regular both being on the same side so it rides level. In a lhd truck, the driver’s weight and fuel tank are opposite, so handed springs are not really required, but continue due to rhd trucks influencing parts supplies. The 109 station wagons have the tank centred at the rear, so also don’t have the imbalance with fuel and driver on the same side.

Likely you will find that the handed springs result in the truck not sitting level, but it won’t impact function greatly where you put the higher arched/stiffer spring.
