Ham Radio Purchase and Installation

I have a Ham license. I have been using a handheld BaoFeng unit for the past few years. However, it is time to get an actual powered unit installed in my truck. Unfortunately, I am not an expert on ham radios and installation. I tried calling Burnaby Radio and there has been no answer. Their voice mail message says they are looking for a new location.

I am looking to install the unit in area just above my rearview mirror in my Disco (just behind the sunroof switches).

Does anyone have suggestions for a unit which has worked well for you? Any installers in the local area?

Thanks in advance.
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

You could try these guys in Langley who supported my radio install (which I did myself). https://www.metro-mobile.com/
Brad helped me out

Hi Andrew location will depend a lot on the radio you get. As I recall there is not a lot of room up there, the radio needs some air space for cooling, that is how my primary unit ended up in the alpine window.

Power should ideally come directly from the battery with, inline fuses.

Antenna mounting is not too hard.

If you let me know the model you are getting I can give you hand figuring it out, and installing if you like.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your kind offer. I will certainly seek your help when I decide on the unit to purchase.
