High Country Adventure - Sept 1-4

Hi All,

We are just in the middle of putting together a High Country run, it will depart on Saturday morning Sept 1st and return early afternoon of Tuesday Sept 4th.
It will be an off road adventure into some very remote areas so we will be far away from the crowds of the Long Weekend!
Keep the dates clear, tune up the Rover, more details will be posted on the weekend,
This will be a Rover-Landers club members only run (still time to join up if you have been sitting on the fence!)....

cheers,
Andy

Any chance there would be a chance for early release in the route? I have to be back in Seattle Tuesday a.m.

^ What he said!

Seriously, Tuesday 04 September? How about 31 August -> 03 September instead?

I know its a little insensitive for those who need to be back at school on Tuesday morning but by leaving on Saturday morning and returning Tuesday early afternoon it really avoids the worst of the dreadful Long Weekend Traffic! That being said, for those who really need to be back can skip last night at Blowdown Pass and can continue down the Sea to Sky and be back in Vancouver around 4pm Monday.

OK, back to the trip details, its been a few years since our last visit so the plan is to head up towards Lilooet way to explore the Stunning Ochi Basin Valley, including Molybdenite Ridge and Molybdenite Lake.
Camping in the Ochi Basin for two nights (Sat & Sun), then for those staying the extra night (Mon night) we will break the journey home up by stopping in at Blowdown Pass and camp out in the saddle and return home on Tuesday early afternoon.

What -Wilderness off-road 4 day adventure.
Where - Ochi Basin - Molybdenite Ridge - Molybdenite Lake - Blowdown Pass
When - Meet at Tim Horton's in Squamish (Note, at the Industrial Way location) at 10am on Saturday morning, Sept 1st, returning on Tuesday 4th (or Monday 3rd for the 3 day option). Please arrive earlier to fuel up and get breakfast etc.. we want to be leaving by 10.30am sharp.
What Else - This trip is into the rugged Wilderness of BC, bring everything you need for the 3/4 days with you. There will be steep high level cliff side roads that require a good head-for-heights. Note, as always some of the roads are not maintained and could be overgrown so always expect some BC pin-striping on the side of your Rover, this is unavoidable. This is one of the most amazing areas in BC, come on out and join us for the adventure. (Sorry, for Insurance reasons, Drivers to be Rover-Landers Members only). There are currently no wild fires in this area but obviously camp fires are banned. I will bring the propane fire pit along to give us something to all stare into at night!

Hey Andy,

I'll be there in the Disco.

Lets pray there are no additional fires and the winds clear out the smoke before the weekend!

Hi Andy,

I have a gas guzzling 4.6 V8. Do you think I will need to bring extra petrol?

Thanks!

Hi All,
Excellent to see a good group building, I'm looking forward to another exciting adventure!

Andrew, There is a gas station that we will stop at just where we turn off near Lillooet, if you fill up there you will have plenty in the tank for the trip. That being said, its never a bad idea to bring a little extra if you can carry it safely, but its not a "must have" for this trip.

cheers,
Andy

Once again, a shout out to Andy for leading a great trip. Sorry I had to bug out a day earlier. I was able to make to make it to Rovalution and left the Disco there. Rob was kind enough to give me a ride home. Thanks Rob!

A GREAT trip. A bit cold up at the top of the peaks, but fantastic none the less.
Glad that Andrew made it home (at least to Rovalution) OK.
A few pics of the group climbing Up to the top of the Ochi Basin. More to be posted on the Gallery.

Yes, a great adventure, fantastic area to explore. Really enjoyed the long weekend, thanks to all those who came out and joined in 8)
The full trip write-up will be in the next club newsletter.

Andrew left one day early because he had a vibration from his drive train, he was able to drive back to North Van.

Here are a couple more photos, more will be added to the gallery over the next few days,

Cheers,
Andy

Thanks Andy, hopefully Andrew's Disco is just the Rotoflex and nothing more serious

Wishful thinking I'm afraid. Andrew told us he already deleted the Rotoflex. Hopefully he'll dial in and tell us the diagnosis, I'm also interested.

It was the transfer case which was falling apart internally. An Ashcroft replacement is on its way from the UK.
