LR4 Overlander

Hi Everyone, We are new to the club and thought I would share the progress as I build out our new over-landing rig. As much as we would have loved to start a ground up 'resto' of a 110 defender (maybe someday), we chose the 2013 LR4 as we needed both a capable off-roading platform as well as an everyday driver. So far I have been very impressed with this rig and wanted to start sharing the evolution of our build out as we add our modifications. It seems like there is a never ending money pit of things we want to buy for this but we decided to start from the ground and work our way up. I just got the IID Gap tool to manage all the computer stuff.
Initial maintenance completed:
Project list:
- Tires and wheels - completed
- Front winch bumper and winch
- Rear bumper with tire swing out
- Rear ladder (thinking of using second swing out)
- Lighting (front bumper, rally style on roof rack, perimeter flood lighting
I will post pics and updates as this build evolves.

New wheels/tires Fitting the 18” Black Rhino Arsenol with 265/65r18 BFG Ko2. Minor brake caliper shaving to fit these but easy to do. But oh what a difference. First photo you can see before/after.

The LR4 looks great! Nice Job. Those black wheels and tyres make a big difference. You started in the right place with the oils and fluids. Keep on posting your progress, its great to see a "new" one being worked on.
We have quite a few LR3's in the club but your LR4 will be quite unique.

Providing an update today. Got our new grill on and black lettering. Decided to change it up a little on the rear lettering just to be different.
Front land rover logo on the grill will be a union jack but the decal hasnt arrived yet.

Front winch bumper in production - should have photos next week. Tactical 4x4 rock sliders, Skid plates and rear bumper enroute from California. Dual rear swing outs will be custom built once the rear bumper arrives. One for spare tire, one for gas cans and rear ladder. I am choosing not to mount a ladder on the rear hatch, rather having it mounted as a swingout.
Second air tank being mounted this week for Auxiliary Air system. Air horn mounted in front winch bumper.
6 Rally style 7" LED lights being mounted on roof rack with custom light bar mount attachment. Should be completed this week.
Dual Rally style 7" LED lights mounted on winch bumper.
12" JL Audio sub with 400w amplifier being mounted in place of center rear passenger seat. Project starting next weekend
Rear heavy duty drawer system - project built awaiting installation.
Dual battery system - relocation of transfer case ECU - completed. Just awaiting deep cycle battery installation - next week
Massive wiring project to connect all electrical, air and auxiliary systems. Starting next week
Hoping project will be complete by end of August. Stay tuned.
Re-uhpolstering headliner to black alcantara suede (Fall winter project).

Hey, that's quite the bumper! In Britain they call them "Bull Bars" in Australia they are "Roo Bars" so in Canada are they "Moose Bars"?
Must be heavy on the front, is the Air suspension clever enough to sense the extra weight and level it out?
Great job with the decal, nice finishing touch 8)

with the winch and bumper it totals 140lbs, so not that heavy overall. Yes the air handles the weight with ease.

Nice looks like your LR4 build is really coming together. The bumper does seem a tad on the “fat side but all good. I’m sure you can take anything head on now without worry.

Looks great, but Do not make my mistake and not have covers for the off-road lights. Two weeks ago I got a $200 fine for not having them covered while driving on the highway. Stupid regulation, but one the buggers do enforce from time to time. :oops:

Yea im worried about thay since these have the orange running lights built into them, covering them defeats the purpose of that
Ill have to check what the actual law is. I would hate to have to cover them

This is what I found when I searched, before I decided to pay or fight the ticket. I paid it and now have a cover on my roof light. 😣
Per the BC Motor Vehicle Act:
4.25 Despite section 4.04 (2) (c), a vehicle equipped with off-road lamps when on a highway must have the off-road lamps concealed with opaque covers. [en. B.C. Reg. 476/98, s. 2.]
Auxiliary driving lamps
4.09 (1) A motor vehicle may be equipped with 2 auxiliary driving lamps, mounted on the front of the vehicle at a height of not less than 40 cm and not more than 1.06 m, that are capable of displaying only white light.
(2) An auxiliary driving lamp must be directed so that the high intensity portion of the beam is, at a distance of 8 m from the lamp, at least 12 cm below the height of the lamp and, at a distance of 25 m from the lamp, not higher than 1.06 m from the road surface.
(3) An auxiliary driving lamp must operate so that it is illuminated only when the upper beam of a multiple beam headlamp is illuminated.

Thanks- for now i think I will risk it. I see SO many lightbars that are not covered.
