Whipsaw History?

#1 Post by craig » Wed Nov 22, 2006 2:22 pm

Anyone know any interesting historical facts about the Whipsaw Trail?

Why was the road/trail built?
Who is Richard Holding (grave by church)?
Who used the church?
What was the cabin used for?
etc.

I'm doing a brief write-up on our trip there with Shawn and am hoping to inject it with a little more color. :)

Thanks,
Craig

There is info around on the trail. I'll try and send you something if I can dig it up. The sign at Lodestone had quite a bit of history written on the back between the bullet holes :? I took a photo up close to try and record what it said. I'll look it up. Basically part of the trail was built and used as a Hudson's Bay Company fur brigade trail. Hudson's Bay Meadows name stems from the days when they used to stop over with the pack trains of animal furs heading for Yale. If memory serves me correctly the trail was only briefly in use, one two or three season's before it was abandoned because of excessive snow and cold temperatures. The Dewdney trail crosses over the Whipsaw road at least once.

Thanks for the info Bill. It gave me a couple of other keywords for searching the internet too. :)
