Another shipping question

#1 Post by Whistler110 » Mon Nov 27, 2006 4:13 pm

Hi All.

I have been offered a deal on a 130 ambulance that I just can't ignore. The problem is that it is in the UK. I have read most of the info on importing but will continue to research more (by the way some of the links on this web site in the tech section are not working).

My question is, does anyone have any experience in shipping this large a vehicle? I'm guessing that a container is not going to work for me unless I can drop the vehicle down. What would my other options be? I've looked at Ro Ro but have not seen if there are hieght restrictions. Does rail from Halifax have hieght restrictions?

Any help or direction is welcome.

Thanks.

Mike

Is that Ivor's 130?

This one in the UK is a great deal and is helping out a buddy.

I haven't checked in over a year but he did want $10,000 for it.

Your other option for shipping is Roll on Roll off which I used for my 110. It ran me about $3000 and had the vehicle landed in Tacoma for a quick pick-up. But keep in mind they charge you gst, pst, and duty that's 20.5% so as was mention above it'd better be a cheap vehicle. If you're interested I can supply your with some contact info. for he shipping company I used.

The info would be great, thanks. Even with shipping the truck will be cheaper then anything available in Canada right now.

Lowering a Landrover

#6 Post by Revor » Tue Dec 05, 2006 5:08 pm

When I shipped my 110 back (with a roof rack and roof tents heavy duty suspension and 265 75 R16 tyres) I was a little high for a container so I pulled my springs and drove it in resting on its axles. It seemed to travel fine like that. I am not too sure how high an ambulance is but If you completely deflate the tires (which will wreck them) and drop it onto its axles you might sneek it into a container.

Good luck! & I am looking forward to seeing it over here.

I thought about that but the Amby is 9.3 feet tall.

Because I've never done something like this before and the wife has decided it's time to sell our place in Pemberton and move to Squamish I probably don't have enough time. I've asked Dixon at Rock Island Rovers if he can help and he is looking into the options for me.

Thanks for all the info and I'll let you all know how it turns out.
