Stage One V8 109
I have a NEW Galvanized Stage one 109 V8 chassis in stock that needs to find a home. There used to be a Stage One with a terribly rusty chassis that was floating around B.C.…What happened to it?

Or at least there is one at 4x4 Tappen.
I am interested in it.

I am thinking about buying the Stage One at tappen.
Have not seen it in real life yet.
How bad is it?
He said the frame is rotten beyond repair, and will include a good spare frame. How much firewall rust is there? And what sort of shape is it in.
And more importantly:
How much is it worth currently?
How much is it worth as restored to a nice daily driver?
I don't want to spend more restoring it, then I could ever possibly see out.
Cheers,
Nick

Now that is a tricky question. Notwithstanding the fact that everyones idea of a "restoration" is different, if your end goal is to put it right and then reclaim all of your costs +, then I would go into realestate and not the hobby car game - less of a gamble. How much is it worth as restored to a nice daily driver?

My goal is not to make money.

But I don't want to put $15K into something that only has a value of $8-10K.
If I had an accident or it was stolen I would be out. I don't want that.
I also agree that everyones idea of a restoration is different.
I should quantify what I mean. I would want ot fix it up and bring it to about 7.5 on a 10 point scale. New frame, take out any rust on firewall and put new metal in. Clean hinges, paint, clean up surface rust on axles etc... Basically clean the whole truck up, with a daily driver in mind.
I would like something nice. But also something that is a daily driver, and something I am not affraid to offroad and take on trails and put some scratches in.
So with that in mind:
How much is it worth currently?
How much is it worth as restored to a nice daily driver?

Nick

Still difficult to answer. Best suggestion I could give would be to search on-line for sale postings for similar vehicles (Stage 1 V8's are pretty rare in this part of the world (not saying that that gives it more value, just harder to put a value on) on this site, LandRoverExchange, LandRoversForSale.com etc. and make a judgement based on what you find.
You may have heard the phrase "It is worth what someone is willing to pay." While it does not help you much, it is a very accurate summation. I know of some very shiny, clean trucks that sold for a small fortune that are not worth (in my opinion, and in some cases now in the opinion of the new owners) what they sold for (poor work quality, poor jobber part quality, etc.) and I have seen very solid, reliable trucks, where selling them was a struggle.
Good Luck,
John

I will take a look.
Would you say a Stage One in good shape would have a similar value to an early 80's 110 County?
Thanks,
Nick

Funny you say that. I thought about putting the Stage One on parabolics. :)I am by no means an expert in the current Land Rover market. I would think though that given that the Stage 1 is on leaf springs and the 110 is on coils that the 110 would command a significantly higher value.
Now, put that Stage 1 on parabolics ........
Porbably would make it ride alot closer to a 110.
I am guessing for a nice Stage one, it would be around 10K.
Now I just have to figure out what the Stage one at Tappen is worth.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Nick

True, a V8 will suck the gas. I should know, it was a major minus for the disco. But I am hoping because its a 3.5 and not a 3.9, and a standard that I will get in the low 20's for MPG. I have also been told it runs on regualar and not premium fuel. One day I might add a toyota diesel to it :)Don't forget the rather poor mileage of a V8 109, and the fact that it is a carburated 3.5, so the carbs may or may not cause you grief...
In the current fuel price environment this will no doubt be a factor in reducing the vehicle's value.
Dave
So, could someone please give me a $$dollar figure for the one at tappen.
Cheers,
Nick
