Much better than a new Defender but a lot more expensive than an old one.

It's much closer to being a old Defender replacement. Both from the design and repairabilty aspects. I call the new Defender the LR5, because that's what it is and it's lineage is from the Discovery-LR3, LR4.

Re: A better Defender replacement ?
I remember reading a couple of years ago that the founder of the Grenadier was planning to buy the rights of the classic Defender and continue producing it, very much like some companies have done in the past with the Santana (based on the old Land Rovers) and the Mahindra (based on the Jeep CJs), and even the Humvee, which was being sold overseas as the C-series Humvee. I wonder if the Grenadier is ever going to come to the Canadian market though and which dealerships would sell them.

I would not be surprised if a certain service centre in the Lower mainland who is bonkers about Landrovers has not already enquired about being a Service Support centre for them. they said they plan to reach out beyond their initial areas for service centres. They are also doing a staggered market release so they don't get overwhelmed.
