RTV Trials 2005

#1 Post by DaveB » Wed Oct 26, 2005 8:09 pm

RTV Trials are planned for November 20, 2005 in Aldergrove, BC. The location is the Operators Training School, 8th avenue, just west of 272nd Street, Aldergrove. This is basically kiddy corner to Aldergrove Lake park, actually just west of the go-kart race track. This is an all day event starting at 9:30 am on November 20th, 2005.

If you're not familiar with RTV Trials, take a look here: http://www.hbro.co.uk/RTVexplained.htm for a good explanation. We won't be precisely following British rules, but you'll get the idea...

Photos and videos of last year's event can be found here: http://orca.bcnewsgroup.com/gallery/rtvtrials

Well, Rick and Andrew and I toured the site and it looks like we have about 25 acres of dirt and mud to play in. They've built it into a large hill about 100 feet high, with room for 4 different courses to be run simultaneously. We walked what we've dubbed the "Mountaineer", 'Run through the Jungle", Tiltover, and the "Black Hole".

You might get the idea from the names that you'll have a chance to climb, go through some deep cover, perhaps some side slopes and some dirty stuff.

In fact, after walking the site we got in the trucks and I immediately got stuck in a mud hole — and this was relatively dry day! could be fun, and definitely should be non-damaging.

If you weren't at our last meeting, you will want to know that we've invited the Pacific Coast Rover Club and the Herd of Turtles to join us for the day. Last year the Herd won everything, so we really need some RoverLanders to participate this year and keep us in the standings!

Participants need to register. I have posted a form that can be accessed form the front page of our website for you to register. The cost is $10 per vehicle. Don't be afraid, it will be a great day to practice your offroad driving skills, get a bit dirty and meet some new friends.

We also need volunteers. If you don't want to participate, come and help us. We could have upwards of 30 or 40 trucks, and we'll need at least 15 willing helpers for the day. Please email me or respond on the forum if you can help.

OK, if I mention "Whipsaw" here, does that mean I'll get 30 responses? cuz if so — whipsaw, whipsaw, whipsaw.

We are looking for a couple of 10 foot sections of sand-ladder type metal. The Run through the Jungle has a deep gultch that would be challenging, but might be more fun to cross on a makeshift bridge.

Does anyone have access to something like that? Perhaps a couple of loading ramps or something, but not too heavy cuz each width of truck will likely have to shift them.

So far we have 6 entries. To break even on this event, we need 20. If you're interested, but are averse to using Paypal, please post here or email me with your intentions.

If it looks like there won't be enough entrants registered by November 13, we will have to consider cancelling the event and refunding monies to those that have entered.

thanks, Dave

Dave,

Not everyone checks this section of the webboard as frequently.

How about a reminder post in the general section and an email to all club members!!!

Later,
Don

Good, Don,

Get them to sign up or email me so I can add them and collect their money at the gate. We're up to 11 signed up so far, and including your pals about 5 others who have expressed interest.

No sign of anyone from south of the border yet. I did a couple of emails to all the US Land Rover contacts I had. Maybe I'll try another one tonight.

OK, as of 10:45, Wednesday evening we now have 28 entries. I am cutting off entries at this point so we can maintain a bit of control. However, you can email me if you are still interested, as we do have a need for more volunteer help, and if there are cancellations we may be able to accomodate a few more on Sunday.

Hi Ryan, - and all other volunteers

I'm hoping all the volunteers can get there around 9, as trucks will be rolling in shortly after. If you have a safety vest, bring it along.

Also, for any that are able, we are meeting at the site at 11 AM tomorrow (saturday) to set up.

thanks, Dave

What a day!!!!! That was an absolutely awesome event. I tried some interesting lines through some of the gates, had one clean run, gave my winches MUCH more of a workout than I really expected to, and most importantly had a fantastic time. Looking forward to a week of removing mud from my truck (inside AND out).

Great job all -- please count me in for the next event!!!!!

Steve.

Thanks Steve,

I think I am speaking for all the volunteers when I say we had a great time putting it on.

Photos are being uploaded by several members right now...

BTW, a hearty thanks to all the volunteers -- gate keepers, spotters, sore keepers, Marshalls, recovery, concessions, everyone did a great job. Thanks!
