Aloha all,
I got a call from my mechanic today with some bad news. Apparently I had a stuck valve (cyl 4) and my guy thinks it's due to a round lobe on my cam. He's quoted me a base of $1500 as long as nothing else goes wrong.
Does anyone have any ideas If this price is over the top?
Has anyone else had this done to their truck before?
Any help would be great.
PS: I figured if I'm going this rout I'd put in a new 2.5l cam for more power and a new rad (as he said he'd have to Re & Re the old rad to get the cam out).
I appreciate your input!

Re: Cam work on my IIA $1500?
Where are you? Presumably your mech is familiar with old Rovers. When I first got my 2A, 22 years ago, it had a stuck open valve, which was due to a stuck lifter (maybe bent, I don't remember). I replaced the lifter and continued to use that engine for many more years without any more valve issues.
The rad does need to come out to replace the cam, but isn't a very difficult job. I just replaced my rad this winter, but I had it re-cored due to the poor reviews of the replacement ones you can buy.
Good luck, and keep us posted on what you find. Harv

Sorry, I wrote "lifter", it was a bent "pushrod". Harv

You may be able to look at the cam lobe by taking off the lift pump. I'm not sure that worn cams are very common. These use roller lifters and are quite robust. Is the mechanic a Rover guy? $1500 "seems" high to change the cam. I could not imagine it taking more than a day. Really, though, without pulling the head, he is probably guessing.
