Hi All,
as I continue work on the '71 2A restoration, I've run into a "challenge" on the bulkhead, and am wondering if anyone else has faced the same....
I bought some replacement door pillars, feet and footwells, and am in the process of deciding how much to cut away and how much of the pillars to replace, and I noticed that the displacement of the top hinge inboard from the bottom hinge on the original bulkhead, is 1.75 inches, as it is on the hinge attach points on the doors, but the replacement pillars have a displacement of just over 2 inches....if I were to cut out the entire pillar and insert the replacement I think I would end up having to shim the top hinges .25 inch out for the doors to line up, does that sound like something anyone has run into before? Am I missing something in how these pillars are to be installed?
I should add that I have a second (donor) bulkhead from Series 3 and it's offset also measures 1.75 inches....could the 2 inches be a Defender thing? I am thinking that I can also cut out and replace a section of the pillar below the curve, it seems sound enough to about half way down the pillar, but it has me wondering....
Thanks for any insight!
