First of all hi to everybody. New to the forum after lurking for several months.
My name is Steve and live in Golden BC.
I have just imported a 1997 Defender 90 with a 300 tdi engine.
What oils do you guys recommend for gearbox, transfer box and diffs?
Great site by the way, nice to talk to like minded people
Cheers
Steve

First, welcome, Steve! Great to have you on board.
Second, we want pictures. Don't be self-conscious about appearing obsessed with your truck; you are among like-minded friends here, Steve. My name is Chris, and I'm a rovaholic. We want to see your truck.
Finally, I don't know what oil you need, as I drive an old 2.25 litre petrol. I run Motomaster 80W90 Extreme Pressure Gear Oil in my gearbox, diffs and axles. If I were you I'd get the Hayes manual, or better yet, the big Land Rover Repair Operation Manual commonly refered to as the "Green Bible". It will tell you everything you ever wanted to know ... almost. But I hazard a guess you'll have several better (likely contradicting) answers shortly, and start a debate that will last for days. It is Founder's Day today, and many die-hards will be at our big annual event in Surrey so it might be quiet around here tonight, but rest assured, you'll get lots of help.
By the way, post pictures of your truck.

Engine: Oil diesel specific oil is fine. Regular oil come in 15W40. If you start it cold (below freezing), then one of the synthetic can be a good idea. These are normally 5W40 or 0W40. The Shell Rotellas are usually the easiest to find and come on sale at Crappy Tire every few months. Watch for the sale on the 20 liter pails if you choose to use the synthetic.
Gearbox: The manual first specified ATF and then they changed the recommendation to MTF-94. It needs the lower viscosity oil. There are a bunch of oils on the market now that are designed as low viscosity gearbox oils and these are probably best for the box. Redline MTL is probably the easiest of these to find.
Transfer box, axles and swivels: These all use regular gear oil. 80W90 or 75W-90.

Talking of Redline MTL, has anyone found any good prices for this?
Lordco want $26+ taxes per quart, so about $87 for a gearbox full.

In Calgary, Mopac has tons of it. Around $14 a liter the last time I was there. They have a store in Surrey. It might be higher cost now as I have not bought in awhile from there.
Another store that comes up on Redline's site: http://www.driversedgeautosport.com/redline_MTL.html $19.50

It's $16.99 currently. Their BC store is in Langley now (looks new - they've probably moved there recently) just off 200 St on 84 Ave.
