2.25 litre 4 cylinder gas alternator not working

#1 Post by dixono » Sun Jan 18, 2015 8:17 pm

hey all. the alternator on my series has recently stopped working. with a new battery and engine running my meter reads 12.45 volts. so I am just wondering if there is anything else other than the alternator that could cause the alt to not do its job? thanks

You need to be getting power from the charge light when the ignition is on to turn the charging on. First check for power on the wire.

Next I would check that the I brushes are clean and free.

May be a silly question but have you checked you still have a alternator belt installed? Sometimes they can break and fall off  If it is there, do you get any squealing which could indicate the belt is slipping?

How did you determine that the alternator is not working?

yeah already checked the belt. it was tightened and not squeeeking. I could tell that the alt wasn't charging the battery because when the car was running there was only 12 volts dc. it should have around 14 when the alternator is spinning. it turned out to be a faulty voltage regulator. so I have gotten it repaired hopefully that fixes the problem.
