ZF auto to R380 conversion speed sensor wiring help needed
So I'm at the final stages of putting my Range rover back on the road after the rebuild and 300tdi conversion, but ran in to a snag with the speedometer. Originally it had a ZF4HP22 automatic transmission with a 4 wire speed sensor in the transmission, now there is a R380 5 speed with a LT230 transfer case. Now the LT230 has the speed sensor , 3 wire I believe. I've got a square hole an round plug situation going on here!
I'm having trouble finding any info or wiring diagrams on either the truck sensor (1993) or on the LT230 sensor. I'm hoping someone here can shed some light as I would like to keep the stock speedometer.
Thanks,
Pat

Re: ZF auto to R380 conversion speed sensor wiring help need
I found a reference on another forum the LT230 sensor is wired 1-12v, 2- ground and 3-signal. Can anyone confirm this is correct.
Thanks,
Pat

There are two different speed sensor that are bolted directly to an LT230. One is a reed switch proximity sensor and the other a hall effect sensor. You need to figure out which you have. maybe a photo.
I've no idea what the original sensor was for the RR and whether or not you can make the LT230 one provide a suitable signal.

Re: ZF auto to R380 conversion speed sensor wiring help need
Thanks Red. I'm not sure which one I have, the transfer box was from a UK Disco 1 if that helps identify it. I will see if I can get a pic of it later. I think I can get the vehicle wiring figured out as there is power etc. It would be nice if the sensors could just be swapped around but it looks like the way they mount is quite different.

The Disco 1 is the reed switch type. I would have a read of the RR manual and see if it explains what signal is meant for the speedo.

Re: ZF auto to R380 conversion speed sensor wiring help need
Well I manged to get it working now. In case others are in a similar boat, the GY wire on the transducer is 12v and the BR wire is the pulse. Connected the yellow signal wire from the truck to the BR pulse lead and it was good to go.
Thank for everyone's help
