I hate plastic parts in the engine bay that can go brittle and fail at the worst time ....
So, I have been considering changing this plastic "Y" connector with a regular metal "Y" piece and was wondering if anyone has done this already? It is located just below the coolant reservoir on the one 3/8" to two 1/4" hose lines. (300 TDi)
I have been searching around for information on what function the little chamber has on the existing "Y", but haven't had much luck. I was able to blow air through all directions so I dont believe it has any check valve or a deflector plate.
Anyone played around with this on their TDi?
cheers,
Andy

Can't help you on the function...but this part is one I carry in my spares on board. Bernie had one fail and it was a show stopper until he could replace it.

Yes, Bernie's failed and he replaced it with a metal junction, end of problem.

I did not have one on hand when I did my conversion, just used a brass Tee instead, works just fine!

Thanks guys.
I think I will install the metal Y and keep the original plastic one in the vehicle spares kit as a back up,
Cheers,
Andy
