Lift for disco 2

#1 Post by Batrover » Sun Feb 10, 2013 7:43 pm

Need some help
I want to put a 11/2-2 inch lift on my disco 2. I will eventually get steel bumpers and a winch, until then what lift kit would you suggest? When i go onto roversnorth the standard lift reads exactly the same as the heavy duty lift. Little confused! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Check out the "technical articles" tab, Stuart S did a lift on his Disco. Lots of good info and photos.
I would say Old Man Emu is the suspension of choice, at least from the LR owners that I know.
I have installed the OME kit on my LRs in the past and have been happy with the results.

Cheers, Andy

Expedition Exchange probably has the most comprehensive practical info on the OME spring and shock set-up for Discovery's

The amount of lift height is not related to the weight the springs are designed to carry.

What is the total weight you are planning to add to your truck?

OME lift medium duty 1.75" is when you add extra gear to the overall running weight of the truck.
EG: roof-rack, winch & bumper, rear bumper, fridge, extra battery. all add up to running weight.

OME heavy duty lift 1.75" add all the above item plus EG: roof-tent, sliders & under body protection extra fuel & water that is installed all the time on your truck.

If you installed an OME heady duty spring & shock package is extremely stiff coil rates & have not increased the overall weight of the truck. The ride will be very rough!!!

The set up I installed on my 97 D1 was a medium OME. yes the ride was firmed up when in unloaded. but rode very well & cornered well when loaded. A few months after the install, we went to a Landrover event in Montrose Colorado. The truck handled great on the hwy & did great on the trails.

The 97 D1 was stock & I added the OME MEd kit no extra bumpers or roof rack.

The lift of 2" to 3" is all that the D2 can be done. If you want to go higher? With springs that dislocate & long travel shocks. Look for custom setup. With more than a 3" lift you have to monitor the roto flex (keep a spare on hand) replace often, or install ujoint and lengthening all the other usual suspects like brake lines and on and on.

I am looking into putting a roof rack on and further down the line i would like to get the steel bumpers and winch. I will look into the medium duty. A couple of people that i have talked to around here have also mentioned the medium duty 1.75. I think thats about as high as i would want to go.
Thanks for your input and help
