Defender gear linkage

#1 Post by BCROVER » Tue Jan 08, 2013 10:15 pm

Hi
I have or seem to have excessive play in my 1997 defender gear stick linkage. I have not done any exploratory research as yet ( I thought I would ask on here first) I suspect that there are a few bushings and pins worn between the gear lever and the top of the gear box. Does anyone know? is there a kit out there to replace these bushes etc? is this a common problem, easy to fix?
I thought I would ask as it is my daily driver and I didn't really want to investigate without at least some spares on site.

Regards
Will

Pull the shift lever boot off first and make sure the pivot retention plate is secure and the bias springs are adjusted correctly. Have a look in the workshop manual if it not clear. Beyond that, you are going inside the gearbox.

Thanks for the advice, I will have a look this weekend but I suspect I am going in the gearbox ultimately.

Cheers
