Overland Expo

#1 Post by chilliwack » Wed Jan 25, 2012 6:05 pm

We are planning to head down to the Expo via Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump. We'll head down through Salt Lake then plan to come home back up the California & Oregon coast.

I'm looking for suggestions for "must sees" and good places to camp/stay.

Anybody else going down? It's May 18-20

The big Arizona Land Rover Rally (AZLRO) is the weekend right before OX12, May 11-13, in Cottonwood AZ.

And you could always visit the Overland Journal offices in Prescott. :-)

Seriously though, Sedona, the Grand Canyon, Jerome, etc. There are some beautiful places to go in that area.

Cheers

Ray

Couple of days in Moab, then north side Grand Canyon. Perhaps Lake Powell and the Burr Trail...

Yes, there's tons to see in the area, you need weeks, not days.

Crater Lake

I have been told that Crater Lake is a must.... you can drive around the rim of the old volcano & also hike down for a swim in the very, very clear water ......

In May the road around the rim may still be snow-covered.

Our trip South has been good so far. Towing a giant old travel trailer with the 200tdi means lots of time to admire the scenery. Only mechanical issue has been a broken tailpipe. Bungie cords are holding it on for now.
Currently in Ely NV. Sunny and breezy.
Probably camp at Lake Mead tonight.
Cheers
