Sun roof leak D1

#1 Post by franko » Fri Sep 17, 2010 10:30 pm

So of course my sun roof or roofs leak in my D1. And yes done all the searching one can do , been on Dweb and what not. But since the raining seasons is coming I am going to just seal the roof up for now.
As much as this may be frowned upon, I am really just wondering what the best product would be to use?
thanks

Franko,
i agree with Bern,
first check all the drain lines, i believe there is 4 of them, one at each corner, push a coat hanger through and see if there are blockages. also see the drain hoses are still connected.
next check the linkages for the closing mechanism and see if there is anything preventing it from sealing all the way down.
i am sure these have been suggested to you on other sites.

as long as the drains are free and clear i never had a leak onto my seats even with the sunroof slightly open on any of my rangerovers, as long as it wasnt raining sideways.

if you are going to seal it up, i would suggest maybe a kitchen and bath silicone that can easily be peeled away. do not use anything like marine grade silicones or body panel sealants as their adhesion is too good and it will be a pain in the ass to remove if you ever want to use the sunroof.

is you truck still at chesters? i was going to give him a visit next weekend to have him look at doing some work on my truck and would I love to look at your progress.

Thanks man for the ideas. I am just trying to do a quick fix to stop it from getting a moldy interior from sitting at the shop.
But your right I have not yet check the drain tubes so have no idea if they are pluged or not.
And yes the truck is still at Chesters, feel free to check it out and if you want see if you can tell if the drains are pluged well you are there.
I am going to try and make it up there soon.
